Bark (CA)
Tier F · Reputation warningLondon-based services marketplace with a Canadian site where pros spend credits to respond to requests shared with up to five pros
⚠ Bark's BBB profile shows no BBB accreditation for the company that runs Bark's Canadian site. The profile, for Bark.com Global Limited under an Austin, Texas address, showed 85 complaints closed in the last three years when checked on September 30, 2026. Under Bark's Canadian terms you spend credits to respond before you can reach the customer, up to five professionals can contact the same customer, and credits are refunded only if you report invalid contact details within 7 days.
Bark is an online services marketplace founded in the UK in 2014 and headquartered in London; private equity firm EMK Capital acquired a majority stake in April 2022. Its careers site says it launched in Canada in 2019, and the Canadian site covers business, events, health, home and lessons categories, including plumbing, electrical, roofing and landscaping. Customers post a request and professionals spend credits to respond, and Bark's terms say a maximum of five professionals will contact the customer on a general request.
Pros
- + No commission on jobs you win, and follow-up messages are free
- + Canadian site covering trades and many other service categories
- + If your first credit pack wins no business, Bark returns the credits once
Cons
- − You spend credits to respond before you know whether the customer will answer
- − Up to five professionals can contact the same customer
- − No dollar prices on the Canadian pricing page, and credits expire after 3 months
- − Refunds only for invalid contact details reported within 7 days
Canada note
Bark runs a Canadian site at bark.com/en/ca, launched in 2019 according to its careers site, but its Canadian terms name Bark.com Global Limited of London, England, as the operator. The Canadian pricing page explains the credit system without listing any dollar prices.
RenovationFind
Tier A · ListedCanadian directory of renovation contractors that RenovationFind certifies after background, licence, insurance and workers' comp checks
RenovationFind is a directory of home renovation and building companies in Canadian cities, such as Calgary, that it lists as RenovationFind Certified. RenovationFind says certified companies pass legal and credit background checks and are checked for a business licence, insurance and WCB or WSIB coverage. It grades certified companies with its own rating of A-, A or A+, where BBB accreditation counts toward the higher grades.
Pros
- + Certification checks background, business licence, insurance and WCB or WSIB coverage
- + Listings organized by Canadian province and city
- + RenovationFind publishes the criteria behind its A-, A and A+ grades
Cons
- − Contractor fees and membership terms were not found in any source we could read
- − The A-, A and A+ grades are RenovationFind's own rating, not a BBB rating
- − Certification asks for a proven service record, so new businesses may not qualify
Canada note
RenovationFind's certification checks Canadian workers' compensation coverage (WCB or WSIB) along with business licences and insurance, and its listings are organized by province and city. Contractor fees and membership terms were not confirmed because its website blocked our checks.
