Saudi Arabia's mandatory national building code
Market position
The Saudi Building Code is made mandatory by the Law on Implementation of the Saudi Building Code (Royal Decree M/43 of 2017). It applies to all public and private construction, including design, construction, operation, maintenance and modification, and to existing buildings when they are restored, extended or change use. After its phase-in the law allows no other building code, and it requires the Code to be updated and reissued every five years.

Why this matters for Saudi Arabia trades
The Engineering Professions Practice Law requires Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) accreditation before anyone practises engineering, with fines of up to SAR 1 million.
