HomeStars
Tier F ยท Reputation warningToronto home services marketplace owned by Angi Inc., the parent of Angi and HomeAdvisor
โ HomeStars Inc is not BBB accredited, and its BBB profile lists 37 complaints closed in the last three years (checked 30 September 2026). Its parent company, Angi Inc., also owns HomeAdvisor, which is under a 2023 FTC consent order (up to $7.2 million) over deceptive marketing of leads to service providers. Angi Inc. says its international businesses, HomeStars included, earn mainly lead fees for consumer matches and membership subscriptions from pros, so confirm lead prices, the membership term and cancellation rules in writing before signing up.
HomeStars is a Toronto-based marketplace that connects Canadian homeowners with home service pros. HomeAdvisor, then part of IAC, acquired it in 2017, and Angi Inc. (Nasdaq: ANGI) lists HomeStars among the international businesses it owns in its 2025 annual report. Angi Inc. says revenue in that segment comes mainly from lead fees for consumer matches and membership subscriptions paid by pros.
Pros
- + Canada-focused home services marketplace based in Toronto
- + Backed by Angi Inc., which runs home services marketplaces in several countries
- + Pros can buy leads for consumer matches or a membership subscription, per Angi Inc.
Cons
- โ Not BBB accredited, with 37 complaints closed in three years
- โ Same parent as HomeAdvisor, which is under a 2023 FTC consent order over lead marketing
- โ No pro prices or contract terms readable on HomeStars' site this run
- โ Lead fees and memberships are the main costs, per Angi Inc.
Canada note
HomeStars is Angi Inc.'s Canadian marketplace. Angi Inc. also owns HomeAdvisor, whose 2023 FTC consent order (up to $7.2 million) covered deceptive marketing of leads to service providers in the US. HomeStars' own site could not be read this run, so its current pro plans, lead prices and contract terms are not stated here; get them in writing before you sign.
Jiffy
Tier A ยท ListedToronto-founded on-demand home maintenance app, owned by Intact since 2024: sends pros booked jobs at set rates
Jiffy is a home maintenance app founded in Toronto in 2015 that lets homeowners book a vetted pro at a pre-determined rate instead of collecting quotes. Intact Financial Corporation acquired Jiffy in 2024, and BetaKit reported that Jiffy keeps its own brand as an Intact division. For tradespeople, Jiffy says it sends firm jobs and handles payment, invoicing and customer service, making it a booking channel rather than a quote-request directory.
Pros
- + Sends firm, pre-priced jobs rather than leads to quote on
- + Jiffy handles payment, invoicing and customer service (per Jiffy)
- + Owned by Intact Financial Corporation since 2024
- + Covers core trades such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC and roofing
Cons
- โ Limited to the cities Jiffy operates in
- โ Jiffy sets the rate the customer pays
- โ Pro fees or commission not published
- โ Aimed at smaller home maintenance jobs
Canada note
At the time of the Intact deal, BetaKit reported Jiffy served the Greater Toronto Area, Ottawa and Calgary; an April 2025 trade-press report said it planned to expand to Vancouver and Edmonton. Jiffy's February 2024 release listed more than 40 home services, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC and roofing.
