About STACK
STACK is cloud-based takeoff and estimating software for contractors and subcontractors. Estimators upload plan sets, measure quantities, build labor and material estimates from items and assemblies, and produce proposals in a web browser. STACK says the software is 100% cloud-based, so there is nothing to install. The same company sells Build & Operate, a field product for plan viewing, markup, issues, punch lists and daily reports, and bundles the two as the Full STACK Platform.
STACK Construction Technologies is based in Cincinnati, Ohio, with a Canadian office in Longueuil, Quebec. Its founder, Phil Ogilby, started out as a residential and commercial roofing contractor in 1984. Growth investor Level Equity has backed the company since 2018, and in 2022 STACK bought Bid Retriever (bid management for subcontractors) and K-Ops (office-to-field project documentation).
Takeoff & Estimate has three published plans. Free costs $0 and allows 1 active project per month, up to 300 plan pages and 50 measurements per project, with 7 days of Pro features when you sign up. Premium is $299 per user per month billed annually ($349 billed monthly) and adds unlimited projects and measurements, a prebuilt item and assembly library, plan overlay, symbol search, AI Takeoffs and STACK IQ. Pro is $349 per user per month billed annually ($399 billed monthly) and adds worksheet-style labor and material estimating, a regional BNi cost library, STACK for Excel and native proposal generation. All paid subscriptions run 12 months; STACK says paying upfront annually saves 20% compared with spreading payments monthly.
STACK IQ connects STACK to AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude so users can set up projects and create or edit takeoffs by describing what they need; STACK says it is included on all subscription levels at no extra charge. STACK Assist answers questions about a plan set with sheet references. STACK lists integrations with QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop, Sage Intacct, Oracle NetSuite, Acumatica, Procore and Autodesk, plus plan rooms such as Dodge Data and BidCentral. ERP connectors are an add-on that requires Pro.
The trade-off: beyond one active project a month, STACK is a yearly commitment of $299 or more per estimator per month, and the estimating and proposal tools most bidders want sit in Pro at $349. A shop that bids a few jobs a month can test the Free plan first, but a busy estimating team should budget for Pro seats for every estimator who builds bids.

If you use QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, NetSuite or Acumatica, confirm whether your connection needs the ERP connector add-on (Pro required). Connect Procore or your plan rooms if you pull drawings from them.
