About ServiceM8
ServiceM8 is job management software for small service businesses. It is an Australian company founded in 2009 by Kim Ford and his son Ben Ford, a software engineer; the first version shipped in 2010 as an iPhone and web app, and ServiceM8 officially launched in the United States in 2016. ServiceM8 says it has managed more than 50 million jobs for businesses in more than 40 countries.
The product is built around its iPhone and iPad app, which covers scheduling and dispatch, quotes and invoices, card payments (including Tap to Pay on iPhone), forms and certificates, photos, time tracking and asset management, and works offline. Office staff use the online dashboard in a web browser or the desktop apps for Windows and Mac. An Android app launched in 2024 as ServiceM8 Lite for technicians and subcontractors; ServiceM8's help center now says the Android app offers almost all the same functionality as iOS, but Room Scan, AR measurement, diagrams and PDF editing remain iPhone and iPad features. Other features include online booking with deposits, two-way SMS, AI quoting and writing tools, and the ServiceM8 Phone add-on (an integrated phone system that records and transcribes calls).
Pricing is per company by jobs per month, with unlimited users on paid plans. The Free plan covers 1 user and 30 jobs a month. Paid plans are Starter ($29 a month, 50 jobs), Growing ($79, 150 jobs), Premium ($149, 500 jobs) and Premium Plus ($349, 1,500 jobs, then 20 cents per extra job). Paid plans come with a 14-day free trial. ServiceM8 Phone starts at $19 a month, and text messages are free on Starter and above (10 cents each on the Free plan).
Accounting integrations cover Xero, QuickBooks Online and MYOB. ServiceM8 also connects to Mailchimp and Deputy, to other apps through Zapier, Workato or n8n, and offers an open API and SDK for custom add-ons. A directory of independent ServiceM8 partners (bookkeepers, accountants and consultants who charge for their services) can help with setup and training.
The trade-off: ServiceM8 gets the most out of iPhones and iPads, so a team that mostly runs Android should test the Android app first. Job-based pricing is cheap for a larger team doing a modest number of jobs, but a busy month or a growing job count moves you up a plan, so price it on your real monthly job count.
