About Buildertrend
Buildertrend is construction project management software for residential builders, remodelers and specialty contractors, founded in 2006 in Omaha, Nebraska by Dan Houghton and brothers Jeff and Steve Dugger. It is still based in Omaha and was reported in 2026 to have more than 20,000 customers across 100 countries. In 2021 it acquired CoConstruct, a competing residential construction platform, with a growth investment from Bain Capital Tech Opportunities and HGGC, and moved CoConstruct customers onto Buildertrend.
The product focuses on the homeowner-facing experience as much as the contractor workflow: scheduling, selections for custom work (colors, fixtures, finishes), change orders with homeowner approval, a client portal for schedules, photos and selections, daily logs, subcontractor coordination, budgeting and job costing. It integrates with QuickBooks (Online and Desktop), Xero, Gusto, Salesforce, HubSpot, Pipedrive and The Home Depot.
Buildertrend no longer publishes prices: one custom-quoted subscription includes unlimited users, every feature, onboarding and support, and paying an annual plan upfront currently earns a 10% discount.
The trade-off: Buildertrend is built for residential projects. Commercial GCs, large multi-family and industrial work fit better on Procore, and short service-style jobs fit better on a field service tool.

Implementation
Onboarding is included in the subscription. Plan the rollout in stages: account and user setup, the accounting integration (QuickBooks or Xero), and importing customers and active projects; then project and selections templates for your common project types, subs with portal access, and office training; then invite homeowners on active projects to the client portal. Start new projects in Buildertrend and leave historical project data in your old system as an archive unless you are coming from CoConstruct.

It depends on project length and complexity. Short, service-style remodeling jobs fit a field service tool like Jobber. Project-based remodeling (whole-house remodels, additions, kitchens and baths running for weeks) fits Buildertrend, because of schedules, subcontractor coordination, change orders, selections and the client portal.
What happened to CoConstruct?
Buildertrend acquired CoConstruct in February 2021 and moved its customers onto Buildertrend. There is no separate CoConstruct product anymore.
Is Buildertrend worth it for a small remodeling business?
