What is customer portal in trades software?
Customer portals let homeowners and business customers manage their own accounts: see upcoming appointments and past invoices, pay balances, update payment methods, view service history, request more work, manage service plans and approve quotes. That takes repeat 'when is my next appointment' and 'what was my last invoice' questions off the office.

Do customers actually use customer portals?
We have no data on portal use. Use is easier to win when customers get a text or email that links them straight to the item (an invoice to pay, a quote to approve), so check how each portal sends those links.
Can customers schedule new service through the portal?
Some portals let customers send a service request, which the office then confirms. Self-booking into an open time slot is a separate online booking feature, so check which one a tool offers.
How does portal differ from a mobile app?
A web portal works in a phone's browser, so the customer has nothing to install. A customer app needs a download but can send push notifications. Paythepoolman, for example, sells a branded customer app (Pool Junction) as an add-on.
